If you’re a Photographer, the fastest way of bringing in business is through Google AdWords Pay Per Click. AdWords will get you onto the front page of Google within minutes of setting up your first campaign. HOWEVER if done incorrectly, AdWords can unfortunately waste the majority of your cash. Let’s take a look at how to set up an AdWords campaign for photographers correctly.
Let’s say you’re a Wedding Photographer based in my hometown – Bristol.
You would set up the following items in Google AdWords:
Campaign One – Set it up to target only your chosen city and possibly a radius, for example of 30 miles.
Ad Groups – set up multiple Ad Groups such as:
- Wedding Photographer
- Wedding Photographers (yes you should set them up separately for singular and plural!)
- Local Wedding Photographer
- Great Wedding Photographer
- Other adjectives that describe your style
Adverts – set up 2 adverts for each Ad Group, this is known as split testing. Write your Unique Selling Point into the ad. Make sure you send the ad to the correct Destination URL – you may need to set up a relevant page on your website for Google AdWords visitors to land on. On this landing page make sure you include testimonials and examples of your work as well as a variety of ways to get in touch.
Keywords - include only relevant keywords that will match the advert very closely. Ideally you need to include Modified Broad, Phrase and Exact match types (this is explained in my recent AdWords Book)
Campaign Two – Set it up to run UK wide but this time every single Ad Group and Keyword will mention your town name and also all nearby villages.
Ad Groups – set up multiple Ad Groups such as:
- Wedding Photographer Bristol
- Wedding Photographers Bristol
- Local Wedding Photographer Bristol
- Great Wedding Photographer Bristol
- Wedding Photographer Yate (Yate is a district near Bristol)
- Wedding Photographers Yate
- Local Wedding Photographer Yate
- Great Wedding Photographer Yate
For photographers, some people search by venue. For example:
- Wedding Photographer Rookery manor
- Wedding Photographers Rookery manor
- Wedding Photographer in Rookery manor
- Wedding Photographers in Rookery manor
- Wedding Photographer near Rookery manor
Add keywords and adverts as above. Setting up multiple Ad groups per village, district and wedding venue you can soon see that the key here is to set up a very large account with multiple Ad groups. This campaign is likely to contain in excess of 100 or 200 Ad groups.
Campaign Three
Set up an identical campaign to campaign one, but for mobile phones only. This is needed as conversion costs vary hugely on phones.
Campaign Four
Set up an identical campaign to campaign two, but again for mobile phones only.
Why set up such large Accounts?
- You will be the only one with those exact keywords in your advert – so YOU will get the click
- This will lead to higher Quality Scores (a measure affecting your keywords) and cheaper costs
